Course Writer - IT Programs
In this contract position, the Course Writer will serve as a subject matter expert (SME), developing and reviewing written scripts, assisting in the review of course outlines, and reviewing developed content for new Information Technology courses. They will work directly with the MedCerts Product Development team on the creation of new IT courses, in collaboration with an Instructional Designer, Project Manager, IT Programs Director, and other contractors.
They will write and review pre-determined script types representing the “MedCerts 12 Elements of eLearning”. Script types may be written in a variety of tones, including conversational, matter of fact, or storytelling. The Course Writer will work with a highly collaborative team, but will be required to work independently, within the predetermined timeline. Scripted content will be produced, and you may be asked to review the course content and provide feedback to the developers, indicating necessary changes.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise and current experience in IT, AI, and Cybersecurity. The position requires both collaboration and independent work to meet predetermined timelines. The scripted content will be used for instructional videos and voiceovers, and the Course Writer may be asked to review developed course content and provide feedback on necessary changes.
The Course Writer will be listed as a program/course contributor, and therefore must submit a professional bio and resume to MedCerts for use in regulatory program submissions and compliance audits as necessary.
The term of the contract position is estimated to last approximately 10 months but may be shortened or extended based on the needs of the course. This position requires a minimum of 10-15 hours per week, or more as agreed upon.
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborate with the MedCerts team and independently to develop high-quality, engaging, and effective eLearning course scripts for IT, AI, and Cybersecurity topics.
- Follow predefined standards, templates, and workflow processes throughout the development lifecycle.
- Utilize AI Course Authoring Tools and/or ChatGPT to create text-based content and storyboards.
- Write/prepare scripts in a conversational manner for instructor-led videos.
- Write/prepare scripts in a matter-of-fact manner for voiceover course elements.
- Write/prepare scripts in a storytelling format to model IT, AI, and cybersecurity problem-solving scenarios.
- Work within an established course outline and pre-determined instructional design framework.
- Participate in storyboarding, adding appropriate multimedia content (outlines, images, videos, etc.).
- Proofread and review scripts prior to submission for internal review.
- Review scripts written by other contractors to ensure accuracy and proper coverage of content.
- Prepare assessment questions as needed throughout the course.
- Receive guidance and feedback from the internal MedCerts team.
- Review developed course elements to ensure accuracy and proper presentation of information.
- Communicate regularly via email and Teams regarding the status and progress of scripts.
- Attend weekly touch-base meetings during mutually agreed-upon business hours.
- Adhere to the project timeline.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science or related field.
- Current relevant IT certification(s)
- Experience in creating content for eLearning platforms
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of experience in the Information Technology, Cybersecurity or AI fields/roles, with demonstrated expertise in one or more of these areas.
- Must have superior verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience in educational instruction, curriculum writing, or instructional design is highly preferred.
- Proven ability to explain complex technical concepts in a clear, concise manner.
- Must be open to receiving and applying feedback from internal MedCerts team members.
- High comfort level with technology and collaboration tools (Word, Excel, OneDrive, Teams).
- Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail in writing, reviewing, and editing content.
- Ability to produce high-quality content within expected timelines.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Relevant certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), and/ AI-related certifications.
- Preferred experience in higher education curriculum development
- Advanced familiarity with AI tools and emerging trends in IT, AI and cybersecurity.
